Contact Name Field (IMAT-CONTACT-NAME)
This field was originally called the “attention” name until a contact title field was added; the term “attention title” never made much sense, so both fields became “contact” fields. The contact name is a 35-character alphanumeric field found in positions 128 - 162. Its inclusion is optional, as with other IMAT fields. If it is present, it is used as a supplement to the company’s legal and corporate names; it is designed to note the name of a contact person, routing to an accounting department, a care/of line, etc. This field is often not specifically named in State source files. It may therefore be necessary to determine the contact name by scanning a source file’s address for key strings like “ATTN” or “C/O”.
If a contact name is known, and needs to be loaded into the M/O File, it should be listed in this field. IMAT records not associated with contact information should leave this field as low-values.
