MOA State Postal Abbreviation (IMAT-STATE)
The MOA state postal abbreviation is a two-byte field found in positions 117 and 118. In IMAT records that include address data, a valid State code must be supplied. In addition to the standard abbreviations for the 50 states and the District of Columbia, this field may also contain ‘PR’ for Puerto Rico, ‘VI’ for the U.S. Virgin Islands, ‘CN’ for Canadian addresses, ‘ZZ’ for foreign addresses, ‘AA’, ‘AE’, or ‘AP’ for military APO or FPO addresses, ‘AS’ for American Samoa, or ‘GU’ for Guam. IMAT records that have no dealings with addresses should leave this field as low-values.
