Job ES2J243D - Purge/Archive Macro File Quarters

RUN THIS JOB - As required.

This job executes the following programs (click to link to each program description):

Job Features and Functions

  • Deletes and/or archives older county macro file quarters (rarely, if ever used)
  • One or a range of quarters can be deleted/and or archived

Job 243D is a job kept in reserve, in case any State wants to remove quarters no longer needed for analysis. 243D is an older job and isn’t typically used, because no EXPO State is known to produce a Macro Archive File for chronicling old data.

Job 243D is a County Macro File maintenance job. Its purpose is to archive and/or delete older quarters on the County Macro File. The deletion process includes a consecutive series of quarters and is normally for the oldest quarters on the Macro Files. It serves as a means to manage the size of the files by purging. A minimum of the five most recent quarters must be maintained on the County Macro File to perform the integrated edit. However, many more quarters than five can be kept on the file. In fact, an unlimited number of quarters can be maintained on the Macro Files to serve as a source of Labor Market Information. Job 246D and the ES2D screen both extract Macro File data for Labor Market Information purposes.

The archive process actually performs two functions for a consecutive series of quarters on the County Macro File. The first is to copy county macro employment and wage data to the Macro Archive File, while the second function is to delete the data from the County Macro File. This function both archives and deletes county macro data.

It is to the State’s advantage to keep a historical series of county macro employment and wage data for research purposes and for response to Labor Market Information inquiries. However, computer space and associated cost are practical limitations to the amount of historical data that can be stored on an on-line file. Because storage conditions will vary from State to State, this job provides a management tool to control the size of the County Macro File by either deleting quarters or archiving quarters to a tape, or some other less expensive storage medium. Options exist in this job to delete one or more quarters from the County Macro File or to archive and delete one or more quarters from the County Macro File.
