Function Keys Used in ES2E

At the very bottom of the screen are the function key descriptions (pictured above). Several of these have fairly standard functionality, but a few are rather unique. Here is a description of how each function key is used. Please note that the “PF” designation always refers to the function key (i.e., “PF2” = “F2”).

  • PF1 = Return to the main EXPO menu in ES2B.

  • PF2 = Toggle the “bypass” setting of the micro edit record (see a description of this process in the Skipping and Clipping section). If the bypass condition is currently turned on, the PF2 description will appear in pink.

  • PF3 = Exit the system to “native mode” CICS.

  • PF4 = Toggle the “flagged” setting of the micro edit record (see a description of this feature in the Skipping and Clipping section). A record that is currently flagged for review will show the PF4 description in pink.

  • PF5 = Reset the display; remove the current bookmark and clear all of the display fields to start over with a new edit search operation.

  • PF6 = Toggle between the Contributions field display and the Average Quarterly Wage (AQW) display within the quarterly data. The heading above this column shows the current value while the alternative value is listed in the PF6 description. It can be helpful to display the AQW field to explain why some records are flagged for fluctuation of wages (codes 092 and 127) even when total wages remain relatively constant.

  • PF7 = Go to the previous record; when searching by error code, this will go to the previous record with the same error code, or the last record with a lower-numbered error code. For all other searches, the previous record in the Micro Edit File will be displayed. If the first record is displayed, the PF7 will produce a “Beginning of File” warning message.

  • PF8 = Advance to the next record in sequence; error code searches will select the next account with the same exception code or the first record with the next error code number. All other searches will display the next record from the micro edit report. If the last record is already displayed, pressing PF8 will display an “End of File” warning message.

  • PF9 = Switch from one address block to another; the current address is identified in the upper, left-hand corner of the screen (“PHYS”, “MAIL”, “UI”), while the next available address block appears in the PF9 description at the bottom.

  • PF10 = Multiple-selection switch used to filter bypassed, flagged and/or “standard” micro edit records (i.e., those that are neither bypassed nor flagged). The PF10 description identifies which types of records are currently displayable via this filtration process. The default is to show only the standard records and hide both the bypassed and the flagged records for quicker review (targeting only the records that have not yet received special handling). Each time the PF10 key is pressed, the next combination of selections is used and the PF10 description is adjusted, with the letter codes “S” (standard (neither bypassed (with F2) nor flagged (with F4)), “B” (bypassed) and “F” (flagged) indicating which record types can be seen. The following list shows the sequence of these combinations after each time the PF10 key is pressed:
  • (S/-/F) = Select standard and flagged records; ignore the bypassed records.
  • (S/B/-) = Select standard and bypassed records; ignore the flagged records.
  • (S/B/F) = Select all records, whether standard, bypassed or flagged.
  • (-/-/F) = Select only flagged records; ignore standard and bypassed records.
  • (-/B/-) = Select only bypassed records; ignore standard and flagged records.
  • (-/B/F) = Select bypassed and flagged records; ignore standard records.
  • (S/-/-) = Back to default, selecting standard records only.

  • PF11 = Transfer to the ES2C refiling and wage summary screen, while still displaying the current account.

  • PF12 = Transfer to the ES2C “Codes” screen, displaying data for the current micro edit account.

  • PF13 = (Shift-F1) Same as PF1 – return to ES2B menu.

  • PF15 = (Shift-F3) Same as PF3 – exit EXPO to “native mode” CICS.

  • PF16 = (Shift-F4) Transfer to the ES2C “Front” Screen, carrying the current micro edit account in tow.

  • PF17 = (Shift-F5) Same as PF5 – reset screen and remove bookmark.

  • PF18 = (Shift-F6) Same as PF6 – toggle Contribution and AQW values in quarterly data.

  • PF19 = (Shift-F7) Same as PF7 – go to previous record in micro edits or MEXR data.

  • PF20 = (Shift-F8) Same as PF8 – go to next record in micro edits or MEXR data.

  • PF21 = (Shift-F9) Same as PF9 – switch to another address block in the upper-left portion of the display.

  • PF22 = (Shift-F10) Reverse the direction of the standard/bypassed/flagged filtering settings; this was designed as a keystroke saver when the desired setting was accidentally skipped over. The PF10 description shows the setting, which defaults to “(S/–/–)” (for standard-only account display). Repeatedly pressing the PF22 (or Shift-F10 combination) will scroll through the combinations in the following sequence:
  • (-/B/F) = Select bypassed and flagged records; ignore standard records.
  • (-/B/-) = Select only bypassed records; ignore standard and flagged records.
  • (-/-/F) = Select only flagged records; ignore standard and bypassed records.
  • (S/B/F) = Select all records, whether standard, bypassed or flagged.
  • (S/B/-) = Select standard and bypassed records; ignore the flagged records.
  • (S/-/F) = Select standard and flagged records; ignore the bypassed records.
  • (S/-/-) = Back to default, selecting standard records only.

  • PF24 = (Shift-F12) Transfer to the ES2C Geocoding Screen, carrying the current micro edit account in tow.

The various ES2C transfer keys (F11, F12, PF16/Shift-F4, and PF24/Shift-F12) are often convenient to obtain a more complete perspective of the edited account’s idiosyncrasies and auxiliary data, since not all fields appear on ES2E. Once the necessary information has been found, you can return to ES2C from any ES2C screen by using the PF16 key (or Shift-F4 key combination).

Warning: If, while transferred to ES2C, you decide to scroll through various micro records with the F7 and F8 keys, then return to ES2E with the Shift-F4 keys, the bookmark will not be respected. Instead, the currently displayed micro record will be checked for micro edits and displayed on ES2E. If you “lose your way” in ES2C, so you can’t recall which record you were dealing with, transfer to the main menu (ES2B) with the F1 key, then select ES2E from the menu so that the originally bookmarked record will be redisplayed.

You can also obtain predecessor/successor information from the ES2G screen by transferring directly to that screen. Instead of a function key, however, your connection to the “G” screen is enabled by typing the letter “G” in the “ACCT:” field. This displays the potential successors from the prior to the current quarter as an initial default, but it is an easy matter to switch to potential predecessors, list actual predecessors or successors, or switch to a different pair of quarters. However, once you’ve finished with the ES2G screen, it is not as easy to return to ES2E as it is with the “C” screens. This is a two-step process, with F1 returning to the ES2B menu, and selecting ES2E from the menu returning to the micro edit data (the account is automatically bookmarked prior to the ES2G transfer, so can be readily redisplayed).
