Enhanced Quarterly U-I Address File

Data Set Name:                   EQUI.DATA.STYYQ

Service Center DSN:           YBUssX.A145.EQUI.DATA.STYYQ, ('ss' = State FIPS code)

                                             ST = State Postal Abbreviation,

                                             YYQ = principal year/quarter for EQUI data)

Type of File:                         Sequential

File Layout:                          ES2EQUI

The Enhanced Quarterly U-I (EQUI) File is the only deliverable file required by BLS under the MicMac system.  There are two flavors of the file.  The first is the full-scale deliverable that contains a record for each active account on the Micro File, except for non-covered accounts.  It also contains update data for all "unlocked" earlier quarters of micro data.  The second type of file contains only updates to the current and earlier quarters.  The term "unlocked" refers to quarters that can be updated on the BLS Micro File.  The current and immediate prior quarter are always updateable under MicMac.  Quarters before the immediate prior quarter can also be updated if they are in the same calendar year as the prior quarter.  Therefore, if current quarter is 2018/2, none of the quarters earlier than the prior quarter (2018/1) could be updated, since they are in an earlier year.

The EQUI data record contains most of the fields found in the micro record, along with data from the MOA and Narrative Comment Files.  There is also a header record (showing tape transmission data, edit parameters, and other general data. A trailer record is included as well, showing various types of record count tallies that can be used by BLS to verify that all of the data came through on the tape.  This tape file is generated by Jobs ES2J011D and -11S.  The same format of file is produced by Jobs 21D and 21F (though only the first 724 bytes are initially accepted for Job 21D runs), but this file usually gives either a single quarter's information only, or a multi-quarter subset file, selecting records prescribed by BLS for special needs.  Job 21D is intended more for CES applications that require an EQUI input file.  Job 21F is used strictly for special BLS deliverables.
