Physical Location State Abbreviation Check - Code 103

This edit checks for an invalid State postal abbreviation in the physical location address. As with other physical address edits, Federal government accounts (ownership ‘10’) are automatically exempt from this edit. There are two ways for this code to be flagged. The first is for the state code to be blank, but one of the other fields (a street address line or the city field) not to be blank. The second is for the State code to be an invalid postal abbreviation. For eligible accounts, the State code must be a valid state postal abbreviation (i.e., one of the 50 States (“AL”, “AK”, “AR”, etc.), the District of Columbia (“DC”), island territories and commonwealths (American Samoa (“AS”), Guam (“GU”), Puerto Rico (“PR”), and the U.S. Virgin Islands (“VI”)), Canada (“CN”), APO’s (“AA”, “AE”, and “AP”), or “ZZ” for foreign countries). Since this address is supposed to represent the physical location of an establishment, it should only differ from the home State when the county code is “996” or “998”. Even then, however, it will be extremely rare to find any location outside U.S. borders. BLS classification: C.1.8. EXPO “G” code: C103.
