Master / Worksite Owner Code Check - Code 181

The ownership code of a master account should always be in agreement with that of its associated worksites, which is reasonable. It is hard to conceive of a department of State government with one of its offices privately owned, or one location of a fast-food chain owned by the Federal government. This edit is designed to flag those worksites that differ from the master account in their ownership code. A worksite so flagged (since it is assumed the master account’s ownership code is not the deficient one) will have the master account’s ownership code printed on the edit report for a quick comparison. Of course, a worksite for which the master account does not exist will not be flagged by this edit, since there is no other ownership code available for comparison.

When flagged, this condition shows a warning message of “Sub-unit Ownership Code Differs from Master”. This is the only edit message to use the term “sub-unit” in place of “worksite.” However, in a multi-worksite family, the two terms are synonymous. This warning message can also be considered a “gross” error, depending on the size of the family’s employment and/or wages. BLS classification: A.2.8 or B.2.9, based on family employment or wage size.
