PK053

A 2-digit value represents the Major-level Employment Parameter Multiplier. This is one of two multipliers used to distinguish the severity of employment or wage-related exceptions. The wage parameter multiplier is described in the PK059 entry later on. The employment multiplier comes into play for edit codes 091, 093, 095, and to a small extent, 092. If an employment change, employment without wages, etc., edit condition is discovered, the account can be put into a more significant (thus lower-numbered) edit class with this multiplier, applied to the normal exception’s tolerance. If the suspect datum is out of line by several times the limit (such as an employment jump from 20 to 400), it is moved to the major-level edits. BLS originally intended to have separate multipliers for each major applicable edit exception, but EXPO has only the PK053 (employment) and PK059 (wage) multipliers to use in all cases. The BLS default multiplier value is 10. It is possible to lower this value to make the edits tougher, but the value must not exceed 10.
