Comment Codes (up to three) (IMTQ-COMMENT-CODE(1))

This is the current quarter's micro comment code, a 6-byte composite field found at locations 794 - 799 in the record. It is sub-divided into three individual 2-byte comment code fields, namely IMTQ-CMNT1(1), in positions 794 and 795, for the first comment, IMTQ-CMNT2(1), positions 796 and 797, for the second comment, and IMTQ-CMNT3(1), positions 798 and 799, for the third comment.

The micro comment code is applied by the QCEW analyst to note the reason for any significant employment and wage fluctuations as a set of two-digit code numbers. These codes are forwarded to the BLS EQUI deliverable. They also serve as an aid in determining problems in the macro editing process. The only editing of this field by the interface program is to make sure it contains low-values, spaces or a numeric value.

Most often, this field will not be available in any of the State source files. When comment codes are unknown or unchanged, leave this joint comment code field as low-values. In the rare cases when comment codes are available for extract, list them here. If one or more comment codes are already present on the micro record, the additional comments will be shifted toward the back until all three comment code positions have been filled. At that time, a warning message will note that an overflow of comment codes has occurred. This should be a truly rare event.
