Current Employment Statistics (CES) Indicator (IMT-CES)

The Current Employment Statistics (CES) indicator is a single-byte flag found at location 647. This switch indicates whether the account can be found on the CES Registry File, which means that the firm is a participant in voluntary CES reporting. If this CES participation is indicated on one of the State source files, this indicator may be set. If it is unknown, or if the transaction has no bearing on this field, it should be left as low-values. Presence on the CES File is noted by a 'C'. Absence from the file is coded as a space (which is the default for new accounts).

If the Automated Current Employment Statistics (ACES) software is in place for the State, it should be unnecessary to set this flag in the IMT File. A batch job in the EXPO system scans the ACES files for associations with Micro File records. The Micro File accounts found in the CES data are set to a 'C' indicator with all others set to a space. If the ACES system is not available, however, the CES indicator may be inconsequential, since it is most useful in identifying potential matches for on-line comparison of CES and QCEW data. It is generally recommended that this field be left as low-values in most cases.
