Quarterly State Usage Field (IMTQ-STATE-USAGE(1))

754 - 759. The field is completely optional and practically free-form. It was established in Utah to contain the new hires count for the quarter (a use that was later retired). Some States have used this field for female employment, employee contributions, a CES code, or other auxiliary data. Other States have ignored this field completely. Each State can use this field in whatever method is deemed appropriate. However, this field cannot be used to hold binary or packed numeric data, since such usage will cause gibberish to be displayed on the CICS screens associated with on-line inquiry and update of the file. This field is also used in several reports. Some of these will sum the data if numeric values are found.

When the quarterly state usage field is employed, three fields found in the State-specific constants portion of the Lookup File (viewed on the ES2L screen) will come into play. Two fields identify the name of the field as 6-byte text values (e.g., “FEMALE” and “EMPLMT” could be used for female employment levels). The third field notes the default value to apply for records that have no data showing in this field. If it is to be a strictly numeric field in your State, this field should contain ‘000000’, to fill missing entries with zeroes. States that do not use this field would want the default set to spaces.

If this field is to be used in your State, it should be specified whenever other quarter data are included on the record. If your State will not use this field, or if it remains unchanged since the last update, leave it as low-values. Low-values will either keep the existing value or apply the default value (mentioned in the previous paragraph) for the field.
