Reporting Unit Description (IMT-RPT-UNIT-DESCR)

The reporting unit description is a 35-byte alphanumeric field, located at positions 173 - 207 in the record. The designed purpose for this field is to provide a unique description or other identifying information about a reporting unit (especially for a sub-unit of a multi-worksite family). Preferably, it should be a store number or other identifying name which will be recognizable to the employer's main office, since this field will be included in the Multiple Worksite Report (MWR) form. Though single and master accounts can also have a reporting unit description field present, this use is much less common than for sub-units.

Due to the positional placement of this field within the record, it may appear to represent a third street address line. However, this was not the intention for its use. Even though there should be no reason for making use of this field in the case of single and multi-master accounts (since the field itself has been designed with worksites in mind), it will not be used in mail-outs produced by the system. It must not be used as a street address line for worksites. Otherwise, certain reports, as well as the EQUI deliverable and MWR form, will not show the expected results.

Some States may not have developed this field into the State source files. For such States, this field will need to be manually entered by the QCEW unit staff. If the reporting unit description is available in the State source files for accounts that are new to this system, the data should be provided here. If the field is not available, or if the IMT record is for a change not affecting this field, leave this field set to low-values.
