MO Address Type Code

The address type code for the mailing/other address block, a single byte at location 508, is equivalent to the IMT-UI-ADDR-TYPE field described six pages earlier. The only difference is that this field is associated with the mailing/other address, just described, rather than the U-I tax address block. This field should be specified whenever the other elements of the mailing/other address block are included in the IMT record. Otherwise it should be left as low-values.

Valid values for the mailing/other address type code include:

  • '1' - Physical location address, which should never be needed
  • '2' - Mailing address
  • '3' - Corporate headquarters address
  • '9' - Unknown (unverified) type of address

Unlike the U-I address type code, which is not subject to editing, the mailing/other address type code will be validated both in State and BLS editing systems. If this carries a value of '1' (for physical location address), it is especially important to ensure correctness of the data contained in the address block. Post office box locations and out-of-state addresses will not be accepted in conjunction with an address type code of '1' (though an out-of-state physical address is permissible if the county code is set to ‘996’ or ‘998’, denoting an out-of-state or out-of-country location).
