Phone Number (IMT-PHONE-NUM)

The phone number is divided into three fields: IMT-AREA, a 3-character field for the area code, found in positions 509 - 511; IMT-PHONE, a 7-character field at positions 512 - 518 (which, in turn, is sub-divided into the 3-byte exchange code, IMT-PH-PFX, in positions 512 - 514, and the 4-byte suffix, IMT-PH-SFX, in positions 515 - 518), and the phone extension, IMT-PHONE-EXT, a 5-character field at positions 519 - 523. If the phone number is known, it should be entered into the IMT-PHONE field. The area code should also be placed in the IMT-AREA field at the same time. If there is no known extension to the phone number, it should be left as low-values. If the phone number is unknown or unchanged, all three fields should be set to low-values. For worksite records, the phone number is generally not needed, since questions regarding worksite employment or wage statistics should be directed to the master account or corporate headquarters. For applicable accounts, however, the phone number can be very important for obtaining follow-up information on missing or questionable wage and employment figures.
