Batch Job Processing Introduction

Batch Job Overview Two major types of batch jobs exist in the Exportable QCEW system:

  • Micro Batch Jobs - Estimate, edit, and produce various reports for individual establishments.
  • Macro Batch Jobs - Edit and produce various aggregate reports.

The Exportable Automated Refiling System (EARS) jobs are all essentially micro-level jobs.

Batch Job Naming Convention The standard EXPO/EARS batch job naming convention was designed to allow the user to glean information from its corresponding job name. The job naming convention adheres to the following format:

  • Section 1 - The first section of the batch job naming convention helps determine whether the job is executed by the EXPO system (denoted by an ES2J designation, named after the ES-202 system, now known as QCEW) or the EARS system (denoted by an EARJ designation for refiling jobs).
  • Section 2 - Contains the job designation number. The order in which the jobs are to be run does not directly relate to the numbering sequence. The batch jobs in numeric sequence are:
    • Micro jobs (numbered 001-047).
    • Utility and Wage-data jobs (numbered 050-063).
    • Other utility jobs (084 and IBLD).
    • Miscellaneous utility jobs (070-172).
    • EARS (refiling) jobs (100-124).
    • Macro-related jobs (241-249).
  • Section 3 - The alpha character in last section indicates the job’s frequency code. In general, this indicates the typical frequency with which to run the batch job. The frequency codes are as follows:
    • A - Annual - Run once each year.
    • B - Backup jobs.
    • D - On-Demand - Run as often as needed.
    • E - Extracted Data jobs are used to print forms in-house from a DMA-run job (these are very rarely used any more, since they required specialized processing by the State’s programming staff).
    • F - Needed for Federal usage (a special report or unusual deliverable).
    • M - Monthly - Run once per month.
    • Q - Quarterly - Run once each quarter.
    • R - Restore or faster quarterly run jobs.
    • S - Special job run (for streamlined operation or as a second-chance deliverable).

Since the first four characters in each job remain the same, references to jobs in this documentation will refer to the last four characters only.

Accessing and Processing Batch Jobs To get started, refer to the DMA Processing documentation for initial logon procedures. For more detailed information on submitting jobs, reference the Submitting a Job Through C-List section of the DMA Processing documentation.
