Job 034D creates two extract files, used by the Mass-Layoff Statistics (MLS) program. One file contains data for “small” firms and the other file for “large” firms. Before running this job, the user should specify the cutoff employment level in the ES2N screen to distinguish between small and large employers.

Firms, as defined for this job, include masters and singles. Multi sub-units are not selected for either of the two files. The large file is in a 194-byte record length format that includes larger firms with employment at or above the job’s employment cutoff level (YBUscX.A145.Job34D.Datalrg). The small file is a 20-byte record length format that includes smaller firms with employment below the Job’s employment cutoff level (YBUscX.A145.Job34D.Datasml).
