Job ES2J035D - Load Geo-Code Data to Micro File

RUN THIS JOB - As required.

This job executes the following programs (click to link to each program description):

Job Features and Functions

  • Directly updates Micro File with Geocoding data transmitted to Service Center by BLS
  • Bypasses updates to records with manually entered geo-codes (source code = S and software code = U)
  • Uses Geocoding file as input to directly update Micro File
  • CICS is not disabled while Job is running
  • Option to update Micro File and print Geocoding Reports
  • Option to produce reports only without file update
  • Two reports-firm list and summary, summary only

Job 035D reads in geocoding data from the BLS-supplied Input Geocoding Transaction (IGT) File to update the Micro File. Fields such as longitude and latitude (measured to the millionth of a degree, equivalent to no bigger than the size of a playing card), match code, location code, place code, and place class accompany the physical location address, which has been reformatted to conform to geocoding standards.

The job will optionally bypass the update and produce a Firm List or Summary Report of the input Geocode File. The direct update feature means that no other job needs to be run to apply the geocodes to records in the Micro File. EXPO files are not disabled in CICS during the run of this Job.

For Micro File records with manually entered geocodes, the update is bypassed. Such records are identified in Job 035D by a source code of ‘S’ and a software code of ‘U’. The source and software codes are automatically set by screen ES2C when geocodes (latitude, longitude, or place codes) are manually entered. These manually entered geocodes remain in the record until overwritten by another manual entry, or until the physical address is manually changed, or when updated by batch jobs 001D, 001Q, 001S, 001X, or 013D. When a new physical address is entered into a record in ES2C, the geocodes are automatically blanked out. This allows Job 035D to subsequently update the geocode fields with current information supplied by BLS.

With the update of the Micro File, a report of processed records is also generated by Job 035D. One report includes account numbers, employer name, city, State, longitude, latitude, match code, location code, city code, and city identifier. If records exist on the geocode file that are not in the Micro File, they are simply bypassed and noted on the report as ‘not on Micro File’. A second report includes only summary totals of records processed. An option exists to print the Summary Report only, eliminating the very large Firm List Report.

Please note, the use of standardized addresses in this file has not been approved by the BLS office, and will likely not be approved.
