Reviewing Bypassed and Flagged Establishments

There are essentially three types of Micro Edit File records: Standard (“S”), Bypassed (“B”), and Flagged (“F”). The default method of browsing through the records is to select only the standard (i.e., non-bypassed and non-flagged) records. But you can modify this search by pressing the F10 key. The description of the F10 key at the bottom indicates which types of records are selectable. Initially it reads “10(S/-/-)”. Repeating the F10 keystroke will produce the following selection results in sequence:

  • (S/-/F) = Select standard and flagged records; ignore the bypassed records.
  • (S/B/-) = Select standard and bypassed records; ignore the flagged records.
  • (S/B/F) = Select all records, whether standard, bypassed or flagged.
  • (-/-/F) = Select only flagged records; ignore standard and bypassed records.
  • (-/B/-) = Select only bypassed records; ignore standard and flagged records.
  • (-/B/F) = Select bypassed and flagged records; ignore standard records.
  • (S/-/-) = Back to default, selecting standard records only.

As you can see, any combination of selection options is available, except for the “null” set, or selecting none of the above. As with the ES2C screen’s F10 key, you can reverse direction with the PF22 key (or Shift-PF10) combination.

Note: This filtering mechanism does not apply to the first record display for a new key entry. If you select page 128, you will see the first record on that page, regardless of its bypass/flag status. The filtering is designed for the scrolling of records with the F7 and F8 keys.

Sometimes, there is not enough information available to complete the resolution of a flagged account. In this instance, it is best to contact the employer directly. Often there is a particular person who is to be contacted. To display the contact information, move the cursor to the phone number field and press the Enter key. The contact name and title will appear near the bottom of the screen in red, if they are present in the Micro Omni Auxiliary File’s contact data. If you try to call the business’s contact person but they are away, you may want to flag the record with the F4 key.

During the latter portion of micro edit review, the majority of the initial edit exceptions will be either removed through corrections, or skipped with the F2 key. Because of this, more and more of the micro edit records will be skipped over in later reviews (when those with the skip switch set to “Y” are not included in the perusal). When multiple records are passed over to get to a displayable one, a counter tracks the number of skipped records; this is displayed on the screen with a message such as “37 RECORDS SKIPPED TO FIND THIS RECORD”. These counts can give you a better idea of how much of the micro edits has already been handled.
