Lookup (Table) File

Data Set Name:                   WS.ES202.LOOKUP

Service Center DSN:           YBUssX.A145.LOOKUP, ('ss' = State FIPS code)

Type of File:                         VSAM indexed

File Layout:                          ES2LKUP

CICS ID:                               ES2LKUP (standard); EssLKUP (Service Center; ss=State)

The Lookup File presents multiple tables of valid codes, editing constants, etc., for use in data editing, performing estimates, determining state-specific processing, etc.  Even though this information is considered auxiliary tabled data, the Lookup File is the most universally used file in the EXPO/EARS environment.  Records in this file are maintained through the ES2L screens, which require special authorization for access.  Some records may be added or deleted, such as county codes or NAICS codes. Other records require BLS approval for additions, such as new State-specific constants and editing constants.

There has been a continual expansion of the Lookup File over the years, as ever more auxiliary data needs have come to light, requiring the addition of more types of records to this file.  As a result, there are several portions of the file that are now documented elsewhere, since they form an entirely different branch of data from the original constants noted above.  Examples include the batch job parameters, micro editing bookmark records, etc.  These records are established or maintained by other programs (usually on-line applications), and are dealt with separately from "standard" Lookup records.
