ES2MEXR - Length 46 - Revised 2/14/2018

Columns

LenKeyTypeCOBOL Field NameDescription & Notes
General Record (Meaningless Except for Defining the Record Key Area)
12525KeyCharMEXR-KEYRecord Key area (some records have fields that cross the key boundary, so it is specifically defined here
264621 CharMEXR-DATAData portion of the record (in previous versions, the entire record was used as the key, but this has been found to be unnecessary and wasteful of resources)
Account-based Cross-Reference Record
11515KeyCharMEXR-SESA-IDSESA ID (U-I account number and RUN) of an employer found in the micro edits; sub-defined below
11010RKeyCharMEXR-ACCTU-I account number portion of SESA ID of establishment found in micro edits
11155RKeyCharMEXR-RPT-UNITReporting unit number portion of SESA ID of establishment found in micro edits
164631(Key)CharMEXR-MIED-KEYMicro Edit key used for this establishment; the first 10 bytes are in the key area, while the remaining 21 bytes are outside of the key area; this group-level field is sub-defined below
16161RKeyCharMEXR-REC-TYPERecord type code found in the Micro Edit record; 'E' = standard micro edit record; 'H' = multi-balance edit record
17193RKeyCharMEXR-USER-IDAssigned user for this micro edit record (not yet used; set to spaces)
20201RKeyCharMEXR-FAMILY-SPLIT-SWDesignation of multi-families to be separated from single-account sort parameters to appear in strictly SESA ID sequence among their various types ('E' = EDI employer (if broken out separately), 'M' = multi families (not elsewhere broken out by special action (i.e., for EDI's and PEO's), 'P' = PEO employer (if broken out separately)); blank = no special separation of this account (single or no multi breakouts used); 'W' = split on the web reporters, so that they are listed separately
2122

2R

KeyCharMEXR-QMSAQMSA for segregated edit output (for those states using geographic regions); used only for single accounts and integrated edits (standard multi-family records will have the QMSA set to spaces, so that families can be examined as a group)
21222RKeyCompMEXR-UI-DIGITSAlternative to QMSA for California, using a 4-digit computational (binary) field comprised of a leading zero, followed by three digits of the U-I account number; the multi-family exemption of QMSA's does not apply to U-I digit sorting, since these can be used for singles or multi-families equally; however, integrated edits do not use the U-I digit field (i.e., it is left as low-values (binary zeroes))
23231RKeyCharMEXR-MAED-SWMacro-edit inclusion (integration) switch ('Y' = integrated; 'N' = non-integrated (standard)
2446

23R

(Key)CharMEXR-SORT-PARMSSorting parameters applied to singles (and multi's if no multi-segregation is applied); only the first two characters are included in the sort key
2446

23R

(Key)CharMEXR-MAED-KEYAlternative to the sort parameters, used only when the MEXR-MAED-SW = 'Y'; this alternate area, like the sort parms, is only keyed on the first two bytes
243310RKeyCharMEXR-MAED-CONMacro edit association, combined county, owner, NAICS connection; this can be set to the alternate (ownership-NAICS-county) sequence, but doesn't need to be separately referenced, since the macro edit key is examined only as a group

Error Code Cross Reference Record Format
111KeyCharMEXR-ERR-XREF-SWSwitch to distinguish the two types of records, 'X' = Error cross-reference record
243KeyCharMEXRX-USER-IDUser ID assigned to this subset of the error-code based records (not yet used)
573KeyCharMEXRX-ERR-CODEError code being matched to a Micro File record
8103KeyCharMEXRX-YRQYear/quarter for which error code occurred (if quarterly in nature, yyq format, blank for non-quarter-specific (administrative) edit exceptions)
112515KeyCharMEXRX-SESA-IDAccount number and reporting unit number associated with this error code
112010RKeyCharMEXRX-ACCTU-I account number portion of SESA ID
21255RKeyNumMEXRX-RPT-UNITReporting unit number (RUN) portion of SESA ID
26261 CharMEXRX-BYPASS-FLAG-SWBypass or Flagging switch, used for filtering search during browsing by error code (B/F code on the entry)
27271 CharMEXRX-FAMILY-SPLIT-SWFamily split switch to assist in identification of multi families of various types that are separated out from the singles ('E', 'M', 'P' or 'W'; blank = not split out)
284619 CharFILLERspaces
Page Number Cross Reference Record Format
155KeyCharMEXRP-HEADERHeader data to distinguish page-number records from all other MEXR records; always set to 'PAGE ' (with a trailing space)

Micro Edit Cross-Reference File

Data Set Name:                   WS.ES202.MICED.XREF

Service Center DSN:           YBUssX.A145.MICED.XREF, ('ss' = State FIPS code)

Type of File:                         VSAM indexed

File Layout:                          ES2MEXR

CICS ID:                               ES2MEXR (standard); EssMEXR (Service Center; ss=State)

The Micro Edit Cross-Reference (or "MEXR") File serves a three-fold role.  First, it provides a mapping from the Micro File to the Micro Edit File by swapping the position of the SESA ID (normally at the end) with the rest of the Micro Edit key.  This is used to locate records in the ES2E screen, to identify whether an ES2E transfer is possible from the ES2C screen (i.e., highlighting the SESA ID on ES2C to denote the presence of errors), and other similar look-up functions.  Second, it groups accounts by a common edit exception code.  These are needed in ES2E to scan the Micro Edit File by error code.  Third, it allows a cross-reference to show the first record atop each page of the most recently processed micro edits (using the Micro Exception Report, rather than the non-employment/wage edit report, which is less comprehensive).  The MEXR File is rebuilt from scratch with every micro edit run (Jobs 001D, 001Q, 002D, 028D, and 242D).  The only updates made to this file occur on-line with the ES2E screen, and the ES2H screen, when errors are corrected, new edit exceptions are added, or Micro Edit records are deleted by clearing up all edit exceptions.
