Changing Directory and Locating Files on the Mainframe

Users will be required to locate files in various directories on the mainframe. Suppose an analyst needs to load an IMT File. We first need to locate its directory.

To change mainframe directories, highlight the mainframe (right side) of the screen (this is indicated by a blue background on the right-side field). Select Tools from the menu and click Go to...

The Go To Folder window will be displayed, where the DMA mainframe path can be selected. In this case, we are trying to find the path to the Utah IMT File (named YBU49X.A145.MICRO.TRANS.FILE). Omit the last part of the name (the “.FILE” part) to display the file. Normally, the file would first have to be created with a Job 084F run. However, since DMA will allow “temporary” files to remain on the mainframe indefinitely, it is unlikely that this step will be necessary. If the file is not available, run this job prior to the FTP operation.

Once this specification has been made, the list of files with the same “high level qualifier” (noted after the DMA IP address) will appear, as shown below. In this case, there is already a file with 110 megabytes (nearly 200 cylinders) out there called FILE (i.e., YBU49X.A145.MICRO.TRANS.FILE).
