MEEI Check - Code 040
This edit verifies that the Multiple Establishment Employer Indicator (MEEI) code is one of the six valid codes (‘1’ through ‘6’). It does not verify that the MEEI code is appropriate for the type of record (e.g., a ‘2’ (master account) would be invalid for a worksite (reporting unit number > 00000)).
This is considered a crucial error. It will prevent the edit flag from being set until the condition is remedied. This error will cause the MEEI code to be underscored in the edit report produced by the ES2UT23 program. Sufficiently large employers would be considered to be in gross-error status if this condition is flagged. BLS classification: A.1.4 or B.1.5, based on employer size. EXPO “G” code: A040 or B040.
