U-I Address City Check - Code 106

U-I address edits are at the bottom of the hierarchical structure of address editing. When either of the other two address blocks (physical location or mailing/other address) is determined to be “usable” (i.e., the address exists and no format errors have been found), the “UIA” is bypassed in the edits. The reason for this is that the U-I address block is locked to on-line updates by the QCEW unit staff. Since there is no control over the content of this address, the QCEW unit can also not be held responsible for the validity of this address. Only when both of the other address blocks are found to be unusable is the U-I address checked.

This edit examines the U-I city, looking for all spaces. If the city is blank, then it should be the case that the entire address block is also blank. When a non-blank street address (either of two lines) or a non-blank state code is found in the U-I address block, the absence of the city field conflicts with the presence of another part of the address. When this combination is found, the U-I city is flagged and underscored in the edit exception report. Again, when either the physical or mailing/other address block is usable, this edit is skipped, since such edit information becomes completely superfluous when the U-I address is not needed, and remains immutable. As with the physical location address, Federal government accounts are exempt from this edit. BLS classification: C.1.8. EXPO “G” code: C106.
