PK012

The High-Employment Tolerance for Monthly Employment Change is a 2-digit value representing the higher-employment counterpart to the PK011 tolerance just described. Establishments with an average monthly employment at or above the value specified in the PK010 parameter are subject to this limit for month-to-month variation in employment. This is tied in to the percentage change limitation and t-test tolerances, which are also part of the monthly employment edit process. This editing procedure is fully described in the Micro Edits portion of this appendix. The BLS default value for this tolerance is 30 employees. This value can be decreased to tighten the editing criteria, but a value larger than 30 is not permitted.

Note: The PK010 (split), PK011 (small limit), and PK012 (large limit) parameters define other editing constants for a smooth-curve employment limit function. An intermediate percentage, bridging the gap between the 10 and 30-employee limits, is used between PK010 and a high-end split-level of employment. The percentage (expressed as a decimal value) is the small limit divided by the low-end split value, or:

Mid Empl % = PK011 &#247 PK010

The high-end split-point value is found by dividing this percentage into the high-end limit; in other words:

High Split = PK012 &#247 Mid Empl %

These values will be more fully described in the employment edit itself, found in the Edit Code 091 / 126 descriptions.
