The 6-digit Large New/Discontinued AME Limit is used to flag employers that are starting business, or going out of business with exceptionally high employment at the time of start-up or shut-down. This is checked in edit codes 096 and 097, which only act upon accounts that show no predecessor or successor that could account for the very high employment. BLS uses a default of 500 employees in this field. To tighten the edit and flag more employers, this value may be lowered, though no higher value than 500 is to be used.
