Attention (“Contact”) Name (IMT-ATTN-NAME)

The attention name is a 35-character alphanumeric field found at positions 251 - 285. This is used as a supplement to the names listed earlier, designed to note the name of a contact person, routing to an accounting department, a care/of line, etc. This field is often not specifically named in State source files. It may therefore be necessary to determine the attention name by scanning a source file's address block for such key strings as "ATTN" or "C/O".

The attention name field is no longer stored in the Micro File. It now resides in the Micro Omni Auxiliary (MOA) File in the “Contact Information” record (type “C”). It is officially recognized as the “Contact Name”, since it is paired with the “Contact Title” (or the title of the contact person). Contact/attention information can also be updated using the Input Micro Auxiliary Transaction (IMAT) File, described in Appendix G.

For a new account, the attention name should be provided if it is available. For an existent account, this field is optional. If it is unchanged or unused, it should be set to low-values.
