Job 241D - Rebuild Macro and Crosswalk Files

Es2j241d.png

The 241D job collects current Micro File data for the quarters indicated in the parameters, merges them by macro cell (county-owner-industry combination, or, for the “ONC” States, owner-industry-county). It also completely rebuilds the Statewide Macro File and both Crosswalk Files (the County-based and Statewide files) for all quarters. The parameters are simple, and are listed below.

1. Newest Year/Quarter to be Replaced on Macro File - This is a 3-digit year/quarter field (yyq format), denoting the most recent quarter of micro-level data to collect in order to rebuild the Macro File. It must be present on the Micro File, and cannot be any earlier than the seventh quarter slot (the oldest displayed quarter on the ES2C screen).

2. Oldest Year/Quarter to be Replaced - This 3-digit year/quarter field (also in yyq format) notes the oldest quarter of micro data to aggregate for macro data replacement. Like the newest year/quarter parameter, this must represent a quarter that exists on the current Micro File. It can be as old as the eighth quarterly occurrence, however, stretching its bounds beyond the previous parameter. The value can also match the newest-year/quarter value (as is the case in the sample shown above). Such a match means that only that single quarter of macro data will be replaced by this job.

The 241D job can be run at any time, but is generally reserved for the latter half of a quarter’s processing since more data are available, and the data are closer to becoming final. Sometimes, the 241D job is used early on in the quarterly cycle, simply so that macro data can be seen on the ES2D screen, even though they may be rather rough in appearance. Such usage works well in tandem with the 242D job, which is almost always submitted late in the quarter’s processing.
