Job 246F - Collect Eight-Quarter CES/CEW Comparison Data

Despite the differences in parameters between this screen and the 246D screen just mentioned, this is actually a special version of Macro Roll-up File production. Rather than specifying a parameter ID code, however, the 246F job needs only to identify the quarters to process (along with an SIC/NAICS switch, which will probably be dropped soon). A specialized program will collect the data for the eight-quarter collection used in the PC-based CES-QCEW comparison utility process. This procedure is also embedded into the 011D (EQUI production) job, since this deliverable is also produced with the EQUI. Here are the parameters.

1. Newest Year/Quarter to Include on Comparison File - This 3-digit year/quarter field (in ‘yyq’ format) indirectly identifies all of the eight quarters involved in the output file; the oldest quarter will be the quarter following the two-years-ago-same-quarter value. For instance, if ‘054’ were declared, two years before this would be ‘034’; one quarter following that would be ‘041’, so that the range of quarters would be 04/1 through 05/4.

2. Newest Year/Quarter to be Replaced on Macro File - Since the eight-quarter file is built from macro data, it is essential that the file be up-to-date (i.e., in sync with the micro-level data). This is ensured by this parameter and the one that follows, establishing the range of macro quarters that may be out of date. The parameter is a 3-digit value in yyq format. It must exist on the Micro File and be no older than the seventh quarterly occurrence to be accepted.

3. Oldest Year/Quarter to be Replaced - This year/quarter identifier (in ‘yyq’ format) declares the end point of macro quarters requiring rebuilding prior to the collection of the eight quarter of data. It must exist on the Micro File, and cannot be more recent than the newest year/quarter parameter (just mentioned), by definition.

The 246F job is generally run at the end of the quarterly update cycle. Although it may be run on demand, it is usually either run here – to fulfill a BLS special request – or automatically in Job 011D (EQUI submittal).
