Job ES2J246F - Macro Rollup for CES/QCEW Analysis

RUN THIS JOB - As required.

This job executes the following programs (click to link to each program description):

Job Features and Functions

  • Updates Macro File with Micro data for specified quarters
  • Produces a data file for the BLS Regional Office
    • Used for the CES versus 202 employment comparison spreadsheet
  • Pulls eight quarters of statewide 6-digit NAICS data from the Macro File
  • Output file includes only Reimbursable and Experience Rated data; non-covered data are excluded
  • Output File is named YBUscX.A145.Job246F.ROData, where “sc” is the State FIPS code
  • Parameters are set in ES2N- (newest year/quarter and industry type)

Job 246F is a more specialized adaptation of 246D, designed to use a hard-coded set of parameters to produce the 2-year CES / QCEW benchmark output file, used by an Excel spreadsheet application for graphing and large-scale review of the statewide data.

Job 246F generates a Macro Data File for the BLS Regional Office. This file is used as input to a CES/EXPO spreadsheet that displays both preliminary macro EXPO (formerly 202) employment and CES employment estimates. The BLS Regional Office staff review this preliminary EXPO (formerly 202) employment, as compared with CES employment estimates, and notifies the State about any significant differences that may need to be researched.

The file includes aggregate statewide 6-digit NAICS covered employment broken out by ownership for an 8 quarter time period. The spreadsheet produced by this file is used as a final review of EXPO employment data before submitting the EQUI to the national BLS office. Any significant errors or questionable data identified by the Regional Office are referred back to the State for resolution or comment before submittal of the EQUI.

Job 246F automatically rebuilds the Macro File for the specified quarters. This insures the latest and most accurate data are used for the deliverable. Although the deliverable includes 8 quarters of data, the macro rebuild can be for fewer quarters to correspond with the quarters in the Micro File that have had changes that are not reflected in the Macro File.

The output file from Job 246F is a disk file and is named YBUscX.A145.Job246F.ROData. It can be downloaded from the Service Center to the user’s PC using FTP software. The downloaded file can then be emailed to the appropriate Regional Office for review.

Note: For Utah, Job 246F is submitted and the C-LIST at DMA re-directs the process from the normal 246F job to an alternate job (246C) that reads the Micro File in lieu of the Macro File. For California (a mainframe State), Job 246C is submitted instead of 246F so the Micro and Micro Archive Files are read instead of the Macro File. In Utah’s and California’s Macro File, non-covered data are included and merged with experience-rated and reimbursable data. Therefore, the Macro and Micro Archive Files are used for Utah and California so that non-covered data can be identified and filtered out and excluded from this job’s output file.
