Job 248D - Populate a Publication Parameters Set

Es2j248d.png

The 248D job is able to streamline the data entry process for creating a publication to be used in the 244D job. It allows every conceivable industry code to be listed as a separate line, at whichever level of aggregation is desirable. The entered publication ID is not supposed to be on file already, since Job 248D is only interested in creating new publication parameter sets. The parameters used for this job are listed below.

1. Enter Publication ID - This 4-byte field can contain any standard, alpha-numeric characters (though it is probably wise not to become too exotic by using special characters like braces, brackets, tildes, etc.). This is supposed to be a new publication ID, so the publication should not already exist on the Publication File. In fact, the program will verify that this publication is new to the file.

2. Enter Description? - This is a 50-byte field. Even though the prompt sounds like a yes-or-no question, it is actually requesting that the field be filled in. This description will be forwarded to the page header of the produced publication; therefore, it is stored in the publication parameters as an “H” record.

3. Include 6-digit NAICS? - This switch declares whether or not every 6-digit NAICS value will be listed in the publication report. Since 248D is producing a global publication, it will select every possible industry code, regardless of whether that code is found in the designated geographic area.

  • a. ‘Y’ (“Yes”) - Include every 6-digit NAICS code in this publication.
  • b. ‘N’ (“No”) - Omit 6-digit NAICS codes from the publication.

4. Include 5-digit NAICS? - This is an option to include or omit every possible 5-digit NAICS value in the publication.

  • a. ‘Y’ (“Yes”) - Include every 5-digit NAICS value in this publication.
  • b. ‘N’ (“No”) - Exclude all 5-digit NAICS codes from the publication.

5. Include 4-digit NAICS? - Like the two previous switches, this is an option to globally include or exclude NAICS codes at the 4-digit level.

  • a. ‘Y’ (“Yes”) - Include each 4-digit NAICS aggregate in the publication.
  • b. ‘N’ (“No”) - Keep all of the 4-digit NAICS values off the publication.

6. Include 3-digit NAICS? - This option allows or disallows aggregates at the sub-sector level (i.e., 3-digit NAICS totals) for inclusion/exclusion in the publication.

  • a. ‘Y’ (“Yes”) - Include the 3-digit NAICS sub-sector aggregates in the publication.
  • b. ‘N’ (“No”) - Exclude all 3-digit sub-sectors from the publication.

7. Include 2-digit NAICS? - Yet another yes-or-no option, this switch can permit or block the 2-digit NAICS values (whether matching sectors or part of grouped sectors) for the publication.

  • a. ‘Y’ (“Yes”) - Allow all 2-digit NAICS aggregates to appear in the publication.
  • b. ‘N’ (“No”) - Prevent all 2-digit NAICS aggregates from appearing in the publication.

8. Choose Ownership 1,2,3,5, or G= All Government, S= Local and State Government, X= All - This lengthy description is provided for a single-byte field, which declares which of the four ownership codes to be allowed in the report. In addition to the single-digit numeric values, there are letter codes for special grouped consideration. The values appear below:

  • a. ‘1’ - Select only Federal government employers (ownership ‘10’) for the publication.
  • b. ‘2’ - Select only State government employers (ownership ‘20’) for the publication.
  • c. ‘3’ - Select only Local government employers (ownership ‘30’) for the publication.
  • d. ‘5’ - Select only Private-ownership employers (ownership ‘50’) for the publication.
  • e. ‘G’ - Select all government-ownership employers (i.e., all except private, namely ownerships ‘10’, ‘20’ and ‘30’) in the publication.
  • f. ‘S’ - Select State and Local government employers (ownership ‘20’ and ‘30’), while excluding Federal and private-ownership data.
  • g. ‘X’ - Select all ownerships (don’t exclude anything).

The 248D job is submitted at any time. Even though this job is preparing for the selection of macro data, the Macro File does not need to be up to date when the parameters are built, since publications can be planned in advance. Publications produced by this job can be comprised of thousands of lines; if necessary, they can be tailored to more specific needs afterward by updates in the ES2U screen, described in the CICS Screens documentation.
