Mailing/Other Zip Code Format Check - Code 111

This edit checks the validity of the zip code for a mailing/other address block, if there is a MOA record present for the account. This edit is skipped for Federal government employers and those with an out-of-state county code (‘996’ and ‘998’). It also exempts those establishments with a foreign (‘ZZ’) State code or an APO address (State = ‘AA’, ‘AE’, or ‘AP’). Finally, the edit will only be applied to those employers with an AME exceeding the cutoff level found in the Lookup File’s PK005 record.

Once all of the above preconditions have been passed successfully to find a truly editable employer, the edit splits between Canadian and U.S. account edits. Canadian employers are flagged if they show a numeric 5-digit zip code, or if the 4-digit ZIP+4 is below ‘0- - -’ or above ‘9- - -’ (where each hyphen represents a space). A U.S. address must have a 5-digit numeric zip code that is neither all zeroes nor all nines, and a ZIP+4 that is either blank or numeric, without using a ‘9999’ value. If either format is unacceptable, the zip code field is flagged for review. If no usable address exists, this information is carried over to the edit exception report via the Micro Edit Report File. BLS classification: C.1.8. EXPO “G” code: C111.
