Large AQW Change Check - Code 092

This is a modified version of the standard average quarterly wage (AQW) change check edit (Code 127), which is described later in this appendix. The difference comes about in the application of the wage tolerance multiplier (the PK059 record in the Lookup File). This multiplier (with a default value of 3) extends the comparison value for prior quarter and prior year AQW values to a more severe edit exception level.

Certain extensions to the AQW edit, however, may also trip the 092 edit without the standard code 127 checks. Predominant among these is the check for back-quarter delinquencies. If an account has no historical, reported total wage data over the previous year, the code 092 edit is tripped when the current AQW value exceeds PK053 (the big employment multiplier) times the AQW quarterly change limit (PK019). The reasoning behind this extension is that the normal AQW editing is almost meaningless against an account without historical comparison values, but a very large initial AQW value could still be cited as questionable.

This edit is conducted for the more recent and less recent quarter of edit processing. This is normally the current and prior quarter, but quarter selection is altered to the future and current quarter in Job 002F. For Job 028S, older quarters are used. For a more complete narrative of how this edit works, consult the Code 127 description. Since this is an employment/wage-related edit exception, it can also be linked to macro edit exceptions in the integrated edit report, produced by Job 242D. Although masters are no longer exempted from this edit, they cannot be tied to the macro-level exceptions. Although this edit cannot be considered “crucial”, it can still represent a “gross” edit exception, if the employment or total wages meet the PK067 or PK068 cutoff levels. BLS classification: A.1.5 or B.1.6, depending on employer size. EXPO “G” code: A092 or B092.
